Journal #10, due April 27

This chapter of Eric Tang’s book Unsettled: Cambodian Refugees in NYC’s Hyperghetto is about the experiences of Cambodian refugees with the welfare system.

Here are some questions to guide your reading:

What does the story of Kun Thea show us about welfare benefits? What is WEP and how does it affect people who are accessing, or trying to access, welfare benefits? What is the YLP and what were their goals?

For your journal, you may consider reflecting on what you learned from this chapter– did it confirm or challenge your previous understandings of how welfare benefits work?
